What our customer's say!
"Horrible quality control but light itself is very good and price great", Let's face it, a cheap CFL torchierre at Lamps Plus, etc. costs $99 or more. For $50 you cannot beat the price and the light quality is good. However, as has been pointed out, the quality control on the tubes and threadings is abysmal. We bought 5 units in January 2010, returned 1 for a replacement and installed the 4 originals and one replacement. Six months later, all but one bends at a slight angle from the bottom threading into the base. There seems to be no way to align the tubes together to avoid some degree of overall "tilt." As of July 2010, all are still working, none have falled over although the leaning tower of Pisa comes to mind. There is no excuse for the poor quality of the manufacture.
"nice", Be careful with assembly and should work just fine. BE CAREFUL with threads, light has decent shade to it and cant beat fact it dsnt use much power. I would by again
"Dimmer not the greatest", Overall, I am happy with this lamp. But my one gripe is that the dimmer mechanism leaves a little something to be desired. Instead of slowly dimming to its brightest capacity, the dimmer turns the lamp on, and then gets brighter. In other words, let's say the highest (i.e. brightest) setting is a ten. I wouldn't classify the lowest setting as a one- it's more like a three or four. I'm happy with its overall brightness, but I'm not satisfied with its range of "dimness." I hope that makes sense. Again, a minor gripe since I'm satisfied other than that.
"Surpassed all expectations!", Amazon processed and shipped order promptly. The lamp arrived in a box-inside-a-box format, encased in styrofoam (isn't this "Good Earth" lighting?) packing. Unlike several other reviewers, I encountered absolutely no issues with the assembly of this lamp. It was relatively easy to align the various components and screw them together, and there really wasn't much to it. Assembly took roughly 8 minutes, although the manual indicated an estimated assembly time of 25. The bulb is the GE bulb commonly purchased together with this lamp, and arrived in its original casing already attached to the ballast. When shaken, the bulb made that "oh no" sound you never want to hear a bulb make -- something inside was rattling. I closely inspected the bulb, and found nothing wrong. The lamp ignited quickly on the first try (roughly 1 second) and burns bright. My only gripe with this product is that the CFL bulb used has a relatively "florescent" light output (duh.);the room definitely has a different hue than with a traditional bulb. Regardless, great product, great price, very sturdy and heavy components. Also, it dims.
"How to cure assembly difficulties", For those of you who found it difficult to get the base in, I too had the same problem. I just used a drop of lube (vegetable oil on the thread actually - since thats what was closest on hand). Your assembly blues will slip away in no time.
I didn't buy this product - it was given to me for free as some kind of energy promotion on earth day (in exchange for my old halogen torchiere). Had I known about this product earlier, I'd have bought it and thrown away the silly halogen torchiere. It really is a great product.
The light is quite bright and the dimmer function works well. The bulb is not visible at all, and the lamp looks smart because of the shallow frosted glass (not plastic) bowl. It helps that the bowl is translucent glass - you get some "downthrow" of light as well. Assembly was a snap once the threads on the tubes were lubed.
Its a neat, clean design and looks better than our old halogen torchiere. The construction seems robust and the switch/dimmer has a nice feel to it. The light from this lamp is way better quality than the cheaper CFL's.
Only thing I wish is that the bulb would come in whiter color temperatures (like 4000K) and with higher CRI's (I'd pay more for a better bulb). I don't understand the lesser reviews of this item.

Read this reviews before You buy...
"Excellent for the money!", We have had these a couple of days (two black lamps) and they are exactly as advertised. Neither lamps were broken. Heeding the warning of some other users, I very carefully put these together and had no problems whatsoever. Took about 6-7 minutes per lamp for assembly with no tools needed. We have very high cathedral ceilings in most rooms and these give off a cool but bright glow with no heat. I am going to order another one because our daughter took one from us!
"Not worth the effort", Should have listened to the reviews here! Ordered the white version and found it impossible to properly thread the first rod to the base. Only way it would screw on was at a 15 degree angle. Spent an hour trying to get it to thread properly and finally gave up. It was back to Amazon within 12 hours of delivery. Save yourself the frustration and find another lamp.
"Nice lamp, probably buy another one", Overall: I like it alot. It takes about 2 seconds being on "full" power on the dimmer before you can lower the light. It provides plenty of light - I was worried since the product photos only show it being used in rooms that were already pretty bright. It's not _quite_ as bright as my former 300 watt halogen torchiere, but alot less heat and zero chance of fire, so I'm satisfied.
I didn't read about the assembly problems some had until after I got mine - I put it together with no problems in about 8 minutes. I assembled the tubes with them lying on the floor, then pulled the excess wire thru the base to attach the top piece - this was a little tricky and I had to stand all the attached poles up with one hand while holding the top piece.
"Don't be scared off", The threads are tight, but be slow & careful and you'll be fine. It looks great and will definitely light up a large room - especially one with a high beam ceiling. The only thing I do not like is that the dimmest light setting is too bright.
"Do NOT buy anything from this company", I purchased a brand new torchiere base lamp and the threads on the base didn't attach securely to the pole. When I set it up, it all come crashing down and destroying the bulb, which costs over $20 to replace. I contacted them (they don't have any way of contacting except via email form on their website)and because I didn't have a proof of purchase, they refused to replace the lamp. I sent pictures of the obviously faulty threading and they still refused. I explained that it was a fire hazard and they still refused. The worst customer service I have EVER had to deal with.
