UPC / EAN / GTIN Converter

UPC-A, EAN-13 and GTIN-14 are the same number written in different lengths. A UPC-A becomes an EAN-13 by adding a 0 in front, and a GTIN-14 by adding more zeros. UPC-E is a short version of UPC-A with the zeros left out. Enter any of them and see every form that exists.

Check digits are verified, and a UPC-A is only shortened to UPC-E when its zeros allow it. Calculate a missing check digit first with the check digit calculator, then make the barcode with the UPC generator or EAN generator.

6 or 8 digits (UPC-E), 12 (UPC-A), 13 (EAN-13) or 14 (GTIN-14).

Zero suppression in UPC-E

UPC-E only exists for UPC-A numbers with number system 0 or 1 whose manufacturer and product parts contain a run of zeros. The last of the six digits in the UPC-E tells which zeros were removed (0, 1 or 2: zeros after the third digit; 3: after the third digit, two more; 4: after the fourth; 5 to 9: the product digits). The check digit is the check digit of the full UPC-A.
